It is with wounded hearts that we are called by our organizing values to address the violence and injustice unfolding in the Levant. We are at a loss attempting to speak to the grief and loss of this tragic conflict. It is from the very bottom of our hearts that we affirm:
- US and International law governing just war, fair treatment of prisoners, national sovereignty, right to self-defense, and proscribing genocide and ethnic cleansing must be respected.
- The peoples of Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, and Iran are not monoliths and framing the conflict this way is reductive and bigoted.
- The peace process must begin with an immediate ceasefire, the return of all hostages alive and well, and the withdrawal of belligerents.
It is our abiding hope that those nations with the power to begin the peace process discover the humanity and political will to do so.
