October 30, 2025 @ 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm CDT
Joe Farkas invites the community to a special Halloween gathering on October 30th at 5pm at the Ethical Humanist Society in Skokie, featuring conversations and learning opportunities about death and dying. The event will include brief presentations and Q&A sessions with three guest speakers: a Humanist chaplain sharing perspectives on end-of-life matters, an early childhood educator discussing approaches for talking with young children about death, and a death doula from Chicago’s Death Doula Collective offering insights into their practice and support work.
The evening will also feature a community potluck where attendees are encouraged to bring Halloween-themed dishes or foods that honor deceased loved ones—perhaps even a recipe they’d like to be remembered for. The event creates an intentional space for open dialogue about topics often considered taboo, combining educational talks with community fellowship. Those seeking both a meaningful Halloween event and an opportunity to explore these important life topics are welcome to join this unique gathering that approaches death and dying with openness and community support.
